History of TENCHA
Little did we know, the development of Tencha actually began early in our lives. Many days we would go over to our grandparent's house and eat enchiladas, fresh flour tortillas with butter, and sweet tea for breakfast, lunch, and even dinner! We never realized growing up we would be paying tribute to our grandparents Rosendo "Chendo" Moreno and Hortencia "Tencha" Moreno.
The concept began two years ago when we [Dimas and Alex] had a craving. A craving for Grandma's flour tortillas. As we sat watching T.V. in our living room of our apartment we decided to attempt to make some of our own. The results was disastrous!!
Clearly we lacked our grandmother's touch. We were determined to make them just like her. We made batch after batch until finally we made some that were just like hers! Well, somewhat like hers. They tasted like her tortillas, they smelled like her tortillas, but the shape? Let's just say they weren't the most round tortillas you had ever seen! But we did it! After talking with our grandma about our "lacking of rolling dough experience" we felt proud! She gave us a few words of wisdom that one could never forget. She said "Mijo, they don't roll down your throat.." She was absolutely right and we felt the world needed to try the deliciousness of these tortillas!
Tencha Inc.'s roots started as a company name known as Hortencia Tortillas. I am sure you have heard this story before, but we were bartenders at the time and decided to sell the tortillas for a couple of dollars per dozen to all of our friends and patrons. We had an electric counter-top stove, free willing customers, and support from our manager's in pursuit of our dream to sell these tortillas. The tortillas were selling great and it became an every day thing mixing the ingredients, rolling the tortillas, and grilling them on the hot plate. The tortillas were popular hits at the bar. Eventually it came to the point where people were requesting other items. Soon after enchiladas were being made and then tamales would eventually show their face. The items were becoming popular and soon more and more people were ordering.

With popular demand the brother's decided to start up a catering option for our food. This is when things truly began because the focus was more food to more people. It was essential to provide a great service while serving great food. Throughout these couple of years it seemed as if this has been a perfect equation. Through our success in the catering field and the demand of our customers, opening a store front was the next step.
Team Tencha was formed!
